What a year of travel taught me about freedom

I know I normally talk about ways to work from anywhere, how to stay productive, and how to automate your business with AI.

Today I want to chat about why it’s important to me to have a business that only requires a laptop and a good internet connection. And why I want that for you, too.

My husband and I dreamed for years about living abroad before we finally took the leap, sold most of what we owned, and bought a sailboat.

This month, it’s been a year since we left the United States to travel full-time.

Last year, we spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve in Mexico. Then we spent a couple of months exploring the Cays in Belize.

To get out of the hurricane zone, we traveled upriver into Guatemala.

Using the Rio Dulce as our home base, we’ve explored Antigua and other areas of the country, visited family in Texas, and flown to Panama twice.

Right now, we are housesitting for two months at an isolated beachfront retreat on the Pacific Coast of Panama.

It’s a wild and rugged area with a long stretch of deserted beach and acres of untouched jungle. There are two families of monkeys hanging out in the trees around the pool and new birds to identify.

Every time we pull anchor or check into a new country, I’m reminded why we are working so hard to build a business that travels with us.

It’s not always easy or picture-perfect, but it’s worth every bit of effort to live life on our own terms.

For you, freedom may not be sailing through Central America, but I tell you this story so you know you can have the life you want.

And I know you have your own Big Why as an entrepreneur.

Maybe you want to quit your 9-to-5 and have the freedom to spend more time with your family.

Maybe you’re creating multiple streams of income so you never have to worry.

Or maybe it’s just to earn enough to ease money pressures.

No matter the goal, I want to remind you today that it is possible. You can live where you want and work when you want.

Also, I want to encourage you to finish the year strong.

Yes, I get it. The year is almost over, but let’s not coast just because all the stores have Christmas decorations up already!

The last two months of the year are powerful. Most people start slowing down, but this is when consistent action pays off.

If you use November and December to prepare instead of pause, you’ll start the new year with clarity and confidence, while everyone else is just getting started.

So before the holidays sweep you up, take a minute to think about what freedom means to you and what you can accomplish before the year ends.

You’ve come too far to coast now.

Keep going. Your future self will thank you.

Until next week,
Tanya

Hey Reader, This week, I want to talk about a topic that tends to bring up mixed feelings: network marketing. Some people talk about negative experiences: pushy tactics, pressure to recruit, or endless messages from friends selling products they don’t want. There are approaches in the industry that make people uncomfortable. I’ve seen a few of them, too. But I’ve also worked alongside people who are world-class professionals who lead with integrity. I’ve always believed in sharing things that...

Hey Reader, During one of my daily rounds of AI research this week, I ran across a tutorial on how to create a master prompt to use with ChatGPT. The idea was simple: Ask ChatGPT (or any LLM) to interview you, gather information about your writing style and tone, your brand identity, and ongoing work projects, and combine it all into a single document. You could then upload the resulting PDF each time you start a new chat. As a daily AI user, it seemed like overkill since those concepts are...

I’ve noticed changing sentiment about AI.There are still YouTube videos screaming that you can make a million bucks, but many are already tired of it.Tired of robotic AI voices…Tired of strange videos…Tired of sloppy writing. However, I don’t want to let all the noise distract us from the opportunity in front of us.It’s a rare gift to stand at the beginning of something truly transformative. Many of us remember the early Internet years, when building a website was hard work and it wasn’t much...
